Strange events over the skies of Advance, Zalma

C-130 cargo planes and helicopters spotted over Advance , Missouri skies on

Social networks were abuzz on the night of July 17 about strange occurrences happening over the skies of Advance, Missouri.   At approximately 10:15 pm a series of comments started on Facebook about the strange events. One commentator speaks of communications being disrupted while another describes the event as sounding like “the world ending.  The event left people wondering just what  the military was doing and why were they doing it over the skies of Advance and Zalma, Missouri. Below is the event as it transpired over Facebook:

Tuesday at 10:17pm

What is going on over the skies of Advance?  Sonic booms?  Fighter jets flanking a large jet?  What’s kicking?

John AdamsSonic booms used to be fairly common round there.

  • Heather Smithi know! it flew right over might house. sounded like a freight train! it shook my whole house! i thought it was a tornado or something but i think it was a helicopter!

  • John Adamswowzers.  i lost contact with home and Mandy is now skyping me these events.  they’ve flown over more than once now…right over the house.  very not normal.  i’m sure the booms are the fighter jets approaching….whatever it is they are flanking

  • John Adamsor shooting at it

  • Heather Smithwhat! i hope not! lol but it was really weird! i had no idea what was going on.

  • John Adamswell, i doubt they’re shooting at anything.  it’s just that i’m not there so my imagination is running wild lol

  • Gerald Hendricksonthey flew right over my girlfriends house real low  in zalma

  • Heather Smithme too! it looked like they were looking for a place to land! i’m thinking a UFO!

  • John AdamsYeah it’s not normal to see the air force escorting a large blundering jet in a circular pattern over stoddard county.

  • Brad Moore

I missed the sonic boom, but was standing out when two appache’s were flanking two bombers.  One was blacked out, only the lights of Advance bouncing off the wings, the other had cabin lights on and was low enough I could see the lights.  T…hey couldn’t have been much over 15-1800 feet. Then there was another appache following behind.  Interupted our tv signal.  Would have been something to see in the daylight, but they did NOT intend to be visible.  Blessings!See More
  • Heather Smithwow! why would they be in advance?

  • Mandy AdamsWell I heard the sound then went outisde it was One huge plane and 2 smaller ones followed it. So odd to see going down here in this tiny town of Advance yes they were low.

  • John AdamsThanks for that description Pastor.  wow!!

  • Heather Smithit was very low! it shook my entire house!

John AdamsOhh, and thanks for the blessings too :D.  I need all those I can get!!
  • Sara LacyWowsers…exciting night in Advance.  That would be pretty scary if you didn’t know what it was!

  • John AdamsWhy the comm buffers I wonder?

  • John AdamsI meant “interrupted”.  Brad said TV went out, me and Mandy lost skype.  I tried cell phone and call was dropped.  Tried land line and she picked it up, but I couldn’t make out what she was saying and then that call dropped.  Then after a minute, we started skyping again and I found out that they had made a second pass.  I’m guessing that’s why the land line went out then.

  • Mandy AdamsWas odd one of our three computers the oldest rebooted its own self when the second pass I heard but could not see. It is not set to do that on its own. It made some odd noises and went back to its normal self.

  • Heather Smitheverything was still working fine here. not sure what happened

  • John Adams‎@ Sara, you’re exactly right.  Military aircraft flying around for some reason or the other, or else some very eccentric hillbillies. 🙂

  • Sam LacyThere used to be a navigation waypoint over my dads house when the a.f. base was in operation in Arkansas. It used to be very common to see blackhawks, chinooks and all sorts of jets fly over. Also remember that Ft. Leonard Wood really isn’t that far away in terms of miles as the crow flies.

  • Sam Lacy I would venture a guess that one of the aircrafts were experiencing problems in route.  Or a simple training excercise.  Point being is that I’m sure the military has very little interest in the goings on of advance lol.

  1. Update: I posted a link to this story on a Southeast Missourian forum and there were many comments. Apparently whatever transpired was seen as far east as Thebes, Illinois: http://www.semissourian.com/forums/speakout/thread/5058
