Bias at the Banner: Paper excludes challengers in candidate profile

The July 18th, 2012 Banner Press newspaper featured “candidate profiles” for the August 7th primary elections. Featured were candidates for Missouri’s 8th Congressional District, County Commission and the office of Sheriff.

When it came to the candidate profiles for the office of Sheriff, only one candidate was featured, Sheriff Leo McElrath.

The Banner Press stated that:

“Candidates running for election in the Aug.  primary election are featured inside today’s Banner Press. Not all candidates responded to our request for information”

The Marble Hill Constitution-News contacted the 3 challengers to Sheriff McElrath who WERE NOT featured in the Banner Press.  Republican Denny Cato responded by stating he did not receive a profile questionnaire from the Banner.  Stash Petton, Independent candidate for Sheriff, responded by stating he did not receive a questionaire from the Banner Press.  No answer was received from Republican candidate for Sheriff, Darin Shell.- Editor
