Falsified Documents at City Hall?

From the Southeast Missourian newspaper:

“While the bond issue may be the first step toward solving the city’s sewer problems, at present the city is facing even more sewer-related issues.

Scott Jenkins, whose job as water supervisor was recently changed to include sewer supervisor, reported to the aldermen that he and his crew have found more problems. Some of the reports sent to the Department of Natural Resources claiming DNR violations had been brought up to standard were found to be wrong. City workers also found areas where grease had built up in the sewer system, sewer line hookups to residences were faulty, rags and debris were clogging sewer lines and stagnant water was sitting in sewer pipes.

In addition, Jenkins said, some of the lift stations that were reported to be in good operating order were missing pumps and were improperly connected. A pump in the lagoon was found to be not working, but has since been repaired.

“The DNR was under the assumption that all of this had been done,” Jenkins said.

False reports

Jenkins said he also found out after contacting the DNR that some of the reports had been submitted under his name and license number, reports he said he did not make. He said he found that the city had paid for pump trucks to haul away sewage because of malfunctioning pumps in lift stations.

After talking to the DNR at Poplar Bluff, Mo., Farmington, Mo., and Jefferson City, Mo., Jenkins said he was given time extensions to bring all violations into compliance and possibly avoid more DNR penalties of $5,000 a day.”
