Impeach Nixon

I chose the headline in this article carefully because it very well could have been a newspaper headline from the last days of  Richard M. Nixon’s presidency but it’s not. There’s a scandal a brewin’ and this time it is a different Nixon. Perhaps it’s something in the name.

President Nixon lied to the America on television.  Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has lied on television, radio, the internet and in the papers.

On  April 4, 2013 The Pitch, an ultra-liberal Kansas City, Missouri based online publication reported that:

“Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is sick of hearing about the super-scary Missouri program that sends citizens’ personal information to another super-scary federal database. He’s so sick of it, in fact, that he cracked just a little bit on Wednesday during a press conference.

The bogus claims about the Department of Revenue scanning documents and shipping them off to the federal government started with a guy in Stoddard County, who’s trying to get a conceal carry license, and have built to a statewide fear-mongering advertising campaign.

After the resident saw his documents get scanned, he filed a lawsuit against the state. Here’s where it gets a little complicated. Missouri legislators passed a law (that Nixon signed in 2009) which barred the state from complying with a 2005 federal law called the REAL ID Act.

Nixon said Wednesday that the state was following its own 2009 law and not helping the federal government build a database of personal information.

“This Department of Revenue and this state of Missouri is not collecting a bunch of unuseful data to send to some sort of magical database someplace to mess with people – it’s not happening, OK? They’re just not doing it. I mean, you know that and I know that,” he said according to KCUR 89.3.”

On April 10, 2013 Missouri Watchdog reported that Nixon’s staff told Homeland Security of Missouri document scanning plan

noting that:

“Nixon recently told reporters his administration was not “collecting a bunch of unuseful data to send to some sort of magical database someplace to mess with people.”

He has denied attempting to comply with the REAL ID act, a 2005 initiative attempting to impose universal technological standards and verification procedures in each state to create a de facto national ID card.

But one of the documents Schaeffer released Tuesday, a Dec. 12 letter from former DOR director Alana Barragan-Scott to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, documents Missouri’s progress toward complying with Real ID provisions.

“Missouri’s security standards for the issuance of driver licenses and identification cards are comparable to or exceed the substantive security standards of the federal REAL ID Act,” Barragan-Scott wrote.

The letter noted Missouri’s plan to retain digital images of source documents and a database of all information on residents’ driver’s licenses or state ID cards along with a checklist of the areas in which Missouri fell in line with REAL ID requirements”

So let’s review the story so far… on April 4 , 2013 Governor Nixon stated that Missouri was not collecting data on its citizens.  On April 10, 2013 documents were found that proved Governor Nixon lied.

On April 12, 2013 Jay Nixon’s story began to unravel when Fox News reported that:

“The Missouri State Highway Patrol acknowledged Thursday that it has twice provided a list of 163,000 Missouri residents with concealed gun permits to a federal investigator — an admission immediately seized upon by Republicans as grounds for further investigations, firings and potentially even criminal charges against state officials.”

Eight hours ago , in an official press release from the Governor’s office, Nixon announced that:

“JEFFERSON CITY, MO. – Gov. Jay Nixon announced today that the Department of Revenue will no longer scan or retain certificates of qualification for Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) endorsements.

“It has been determined that the scanning and retention of concealed carry certificates are not essential to the integrity of the license issuance process,” Gov. Nixon said. “We will continue to work with policymakers to ensure the security and privacy of our license issuance process.”

So I guess this is the end of this story; Right? Wrong.  It is not the end of this story because Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is a liar and this is not the first time he has lied to the citizens of Missouri, nor is it the first time he has been caught lying to Missourians, nor is it the first time he has been caught lying to Missourians while secretly in conjunction with the Obama administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

On March 27, 2009 Bob McCarty reported in an article entitled ‘Trust in Missouri Governor Seems to be Misplaced’ :

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s tour of Missouri’s “fusion center” on March 11 was her first visit to a state fusion center since joining President Barack Obama’s Cabinet. Governor Jay Nixon briefed Napolitano on the workings of the fusion center, known as the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC).

The words above, which appeared as the first paragraph of a Missouri Department of Public Safety news release, would lead the average Show-Me State resident to trust that Gov. Jay Nixon, a Democrat, knew what he was talking about when he briefed the nation’s top Homeland Security official during her visit to Missouri March 11.  But that trust seems to have been misplaced.

The Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader‘s Chad Livengood reports in an article published today that Governor Nixon is claiming ignorance and blaming others for the information coming out of MIAC, a program the aforementioned DPS news release refers to as a “fusion center” where law enforcement and other agencies pool information, resources and analysis to better address and detect crime and potential terrorist threats.

In the lead paragraph of his article, Livengood reports Nixon blames lax oversight from former Gov. Matt Blunt’s administration for the distribution of the now-infamous state intelligence report (pdf) on the “modern militia movement.”

In the fifth paragraph, Livengood quoted the governor as saying that the MIAC report was “formed under my predecessor” and his staff was unaware of the document.

Ten paragraphs later, Livengood refers back to the aforementioned DPS news release which claimed Nixon had “briefed Napolitano on the workings of the fusion center.”

What Livengood failed to mention — and, perhaps out of kindness, omitted — was the fact that, at the tail end of Secretary Napolitano’s visit to the state, Governor Nixon accompanied the former Arizona governor to Kansas City where the two of them addressed the National Fusion Center Conference.

Surely, Governor Nixon didn’t go to Kansas City and address attendees at an important Homeland Security event on key national security matters about which he knew little or nothing — or did he?”

For the record the MIAC report specifically listed supporters of the Constitution Party, the Libertarian Party, supporters of Ron Paul and Bob Barr as well as those who are anti-abortion or concerned about immigration as possible “militia members” . Historical flags such as the Gadsden flag, the Colonial flag of America’s revolution, Libertarian, Constitution Party and Ron Paul bumper stickers were labeled “political paraphernalia”.

Governor Jay Nixon has been a willing and able partner with the Obama administration as well as Department of Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano. He has been a willing and able partner in demonizing, criticizing and spying on Missouri’s law abiding citizens and above all he has lied about it… repeatedly!

Governor Jay Nixon should be impeached, and the Missouri legislature should not idly pass time waiting to do so. – Editor

  1. May I ask how experienced you are in this area? I’m asking not because I want to insult or harass you, just because I have a slightly different opinion on this, but I’m not an expert in any way.

  1. Missouri Lawmakers pass bill against federal gun control laws | MARBLE HILL CONSTITUTION- NEWS - May 9, 2013

[…] As one would expect the only opposition to nullifying big-government laws are big government Democrats from urban areas. It is highly unlikely that Missouri’s Pie-Face Governor Nixon will sign the legislation, given his track record of subverting Missouri citizens Constitutional rights and then lying about it publicly.
