Steve Hodges earns Nixon endorsement

Just received the latest press-release from the Steve Hodges campaign. Hodges is the Democratic party nominee for the Missouri 8th Congressional District special election in June. Normally I don’t comment on press – releases, however; in this case, I don’t see how receiving the endorsement Governor Nixon can help Hodges, especially after the Missouri Department of Revenue, drivers license scandal.-Editor

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Today Governor Jay Nixon gave a full-throated endorsement for Steve Hodges’ bid to be the next Representative from Missouri’s 8th Congressional District.

“As a small business owner and lifelong Southeast Missourian, Steve Hodges would bring some small town, conservative values to the halls of Congress,” said Governor Jay Nixon.  “In Jefferson City, Steve has worked with me, and with Republicans legislators, to improve our state’s economy by balancing the state budget without raising taxes, something Washington needs badly.  At a time when Washington suffers from too much partisanship, a common-sense guy like Steve Hodges would be a breath of fresh air.”

“I am honored and privileged to earn the endorsement of Governor Nixon,” said Steve Hodges.  “When other states are raising taxes to balance their budget I worked with both parties and Governor Nixon to balance our budget without raising taxes.  The Governor recognizes that I have the ability to reach across the aisle and get real results for my district.  I will take that same approach with me to Washington.”

Steve Hodges ran a Bootheel IGA grocery store for over 30 years in the agriculture-based town of East Prairie prior to being elected to the Missouri House of Representatives.  As a member of the Missouri Legislature, Hodges has worked with Democrats and Republicans alike to produce a balanced budget without raising taxes.  Hodges breaks with his party more often than any other member of the legislature to vote in the best interest of his district.  Currently, Hodges represents New Madrid County and parts of Mississippi, Pemiscot and Scott Counties in Missouri’s State House of Representatives.
